NPUC 2006: PART CHIMP, DJ SCOTCH EGG, FUN!YEAH!, CRUISER CHIMPS, CORTEZ, MASTER SOLO, TELL ME HOW, CHIHIRO, GERRY! GERRY! @ norwich arts centre (£5)

Part Chimp

"After displaying nearly ear drum bursting levels on their first LP 'Chart Pimp,' Part Chimp have refined their sound, maintaining the walls of distortion, yet adding more hooks and harmony. The word evolution could be used here, but without being punny, let’s say Part Chimp have developed with their new LP 'I AM COME,' but the inner ape is still within. Recorded and mixed deep in the red by John Cummings of Mogwai, 'I AM COME' is an unbelievable mix of dynamics, harmony, and dissonance." - SXSW

DJ Scotch Egg

Gabba-gameboy maniac Scotch Egg, aka Shigeru Ishihara, recorded his debut album over an intensive 30-day period, in which Ishihara consumed only KFC products. The result 'KFC CORE' sees Ishihara explore his love hate relationship with fried chicken. In Brighton, he lived next door to son of Norfolk, DJ Shitmat.

Fun!Yeah!

"I arrive to catch the opening of Fun!Yeah!'s set and as you would imagine with a name like that theyre loud, goofy and fun. They hail from Norwich and produce instantly catchy monster riffs that have a playful AC/DC like tone. Theyre the band DFA1979 would be if Beavis and Butthead swapped places with Keeler and Grainger." - SoundsXP.com

Cruiser Chimps

"The new band featuring Ian and Lisa from Bearsuit and Mikey formerly of Evader and now in brilliant new Norwich band Giant Robot and the City of Tokyo . The Cruiser Chimps take the Bearsuit template and mix it with echos of Melt Banana to give it a more hard edged sound, though it remains determinedly tweecore." - CherryadeMusic

Cortez

Since their inception in October 2003 Cortez have been steadily building a continually growing fan-base through their incendiary live shows. The Cortez sound, whilst difficult to pin down, references such diverse artists as Calexico, And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead, Tindersticks, My Bloody Valentine and Pavement.

Master Solo

Master Solo is Mark Jennings (of PostaLowa, Giant Robot and the City of Tokyo and also one-man techno Sukoshi!), who now assisted by friends Joe and Bromley. His country-like track Dancehall Music was played on Rob Da Bank's Norwich special (BBC Radio 1).

Tell Me How...

Tell Me How... fuse a tapestry of electronic wonderness and folk-pop. Started by Joe Naylor, and featuring Charlene and Mark (PostaLowa), Stacy Gow (Magoo) and Jim Dunn (Bavarin Rocket Groop).

Chihiro

Chihiro were formed on New Years Eve 2004/2005 as a result of a presumably drunken conversation between drummer Dayo and singer and shakey egg player Satu. They went on to win the UEA Livewire unsigned bands competition and supported The Subways. Since then, they been played by John Kennedy on Xfm and have supported Kimya Dawson, The Neutrinos, Strands of Oak and The Kooks.
