THE MICROPHONES / KARL BLAU / THE REBECCAS / WE ARE THE DOTS / MASTER SOLO @ the ferry boat
This night was due to have an acoustic set from Kaito, but the Ferry Boat forgot (?) to renew its music license - meaning that the two-in-a-bar rule applied to performers. Which two Kaito members would you have picked? Following this, Ian Alexander could have opened, but he never made it down in time.
Press release:
Metal Queen Projects are at the Ferry Boat Inn in Norwich on Saturday April 12 with The Microphones from America, Norfolk superstars-in-waiting; KaitO, mid-fi wonders PostaLowa and a spot of lo-fi tag team action.
The Microphones is Phil Elvrum, hailing from Washington state, who transcends the barriers of dreamy indie pop and psych-rock experimentation. His latest release 'Mount Eerie' (January 2003) is a five-song story cycle about a boy (himself) who is born, ascends a mountain, dies and then has a massive, post-mortem revelation.
Phil started to write and record songs at the back of a record, book and camera store in the late 1990s. He later moved to the Dub Narcotic (Sound System) studios which released 'Tests', a collection of his early recordings. Many other releases have followed since his move to K Records, including 'It Was Hot, We Stayed In The Water' (2000) and 'The Glow Pt. 2' (2001).
This is the first date on his UK tour.
KaitO are building excitement in America after multiple tours and appearances at the 2002 and 2003 South by South-West music industry festival. Their second album 'Band Red' is released in the USA next month (May). Here they will be performing acoustically where they will be as sonically inventive as they are when plugged in, if not more so.
PostaLowa will be previewing material from their second album, which they have just (this weekend) been recording at Magoo's Sick Room studios in West Norfolk. This will be follow-up to 'Everything That Connects You' (Spiteful Records) and will capture the advances they have made into melody and electronica but retaining their original lo-fi attitude. The staff of It's All Good PR are highly excited about this.
Starting off the night are We Are The Dots and The Rebeccas.
Doors 7.30pm. Entry £3.50.
Update
er... right...
PostaLowa not playing because of exhaustion...
KaitO now not playing because the Ferry Boat forgot to renew their
entertainments license, so only 2 people can play at a time...
audience probably not turning up...
